Question
We awoke to find our guinea pig had a left eye puffed up and it had a bit of dried drainage like we get in the morning in the corner of our eye. He is eating a little carrot and celery no  throwing up drippings seem normal so far. He is not to active as he normally is. His fur looks like he stuck his paw in to a socket what could it be?

Answer
Hi Deanna

I'm afraid I can't advise you on guinea pigs. Whilst I keep a few, I am no expert on them and am therefore not in a position to advise regarding their health.  One of mine recently had an eye problem and I think something (hay or something else) got stuck in it and caused a problem, but it is hard to know what has caused your guinea pig's eye to puff up.  Do you have a local vet that you could take him to?  If you can't find anyone who can advise you, then it is adviseable to seek veterinary help.  If you don't know any vets it is worth phoning a few to find out if they have anyone who specialises in guinea pigs and if they charge a small animal consultation fee rather than a standard fee.

I hope you get on OK.

Regards
Sheila

P.s.  I've just found a site: http://www.petquery.com/guinea/cavy-illness-signs-and-symptoms.htm and they have online vets so perhaps they can help you.
