young dog getting another dog preg.

i have a 7 1/2 month old blue nose pit. last night he and my girlfriends dog (a 1 1/2 yr. old red nose in prime heat whom we tried 2 breed earlier that day with a different pit) had sex and were locked 4 a few minutes. I no that this was irresponsible of us 2 let happen. but i am worried about the effect it may have on the pups. I want 2 know. is there a large possibility that his half of the litter (if he can have a half) will they be retarded, or deformed in any way? I'm scared 4 the pups. i know that the dogs are ok.

Hi. I'm not sure why this would cause the pups to be retarded. Both of the parents are really young, right now mom would be my concern. 1 1/2 years is still pretty young, she puppy like herself. If she were my girl, what I would be is treat her as if she is pregnant until proven otherwise. Take her to the vet to have a check up done, after day 50 have an x-ray to see if there is a puppy that is too big for her to deliver naturally, talk toy our vet about a possible c-section just in case, make sure she gets plenty of exercise and good food.
