puppy urinates when i go to pick him up

i have a 7 month old jack russel. he will go potty outside but everytime i go to pick him up to go out or even just put the leash on him he pees. i got him when he was 5 mths old from the pet store and i don't know if maybe he's scared or what. please help!!!

What your puppy is doing is called submissive urination. Most puppies do this, but they tend to grow out of it as long as it's not made a big deal of.

Instead of bending over your puppy to pick him up, squat down and call him over to you. Bending over top of any dog is a very dominant gesture, and can actually cause submissive urination in and of itself.
