Question
Shelly is a 9 yr old American Eskimo (15 lbs).  We adopted her at 21/2 yrs of age. We moved about 1 1/2 yrs ago.  She is very well behaved and has never had an "accident"...that is 'til yesterday.  I went into our guest room and found she had done her business on the rug!!  We used to religiously crate her when we went out, but lately I leave her out if I'm only gone a short time.  She is taken out 4-5 times a day and she has a doggie door.  She doesn't seem to have separation anxiety.  She's been a little standoffish since we got her and is not a cuddle bug.  She's a great dog and I'm really perplexed.  Thanks for your help!

Answer
You didn't mention any recent vet care. The usual causes are stress, worms, changes in diet, and other medical conditions. If your dog has not been to a vet receently I would take her in to have her checked. If the problem is not medical, then likely stress related. Consider any recent changes in habit, routine, feeding and food type, changes in relationships or personal stress. Discuss any such changes with your vet.
