Toy Poodle Housetraining

Question
My toy poodle is 6 months old and I have been training him to use a doggy tray pad.  He seemed to be doing good with it, but I still have "remind" him and take him to the tray to pee.  Poop is "no problem" - he runs to his tray for his Poop time.  But, lately he seems to hold his pee about 6-7 hrs and sometimes won't even go when I put him on the tray.  He has a carpet pee accident about once a week near his tray area.  I am at my wits end trying to get him trained to pee without coaching.  Am I expecting too much too soon?

Answer
Hi, Glenda!

At 6 months, your puppy is probably getting close to being potty trained, but some dogs take longer than others.  Be patient and consistent.  When he does have an accident, be sure to thoroughly clean the spot so that he is not tempted to pee on that spot again.  Check out this blog post:  http://blog.gizmo2wizmo.com/2009/05/12/5-essential-steps-to-cleaning-dog-pee.asp...

Good luck!
