New puppy wont leave cats alone

Question
We recently adopted a 4 month old Blue Heeler named Kasi. She's been living with us for the past couple of months, and still wont leave the cats alone. We have two cats, one, Willy, is a bit bigger and will slap at the dog if it gets too close, after a while I'm sure they'd work things out on their own. Our other cat, Milam, on the other hand, isn't the smartest cat out there. If Kasi attacks him, he'll lay on the floor being chewed on with an unhappy look on his face and do nothing at all to escape. Kasi's gotten OK at listening to me when I tell her 'no' when she's getting too curious about the cats, but will sometimes still go back to them after a moment. Any recommendations about training them to live together?

Answer
I would suggest enlisting the help of a trainer to come to your home and help you or taking a dog obedience class so that you can use basic obedience commands so that you can teach her something to do INSTEAD of chasing cats. An example would be something like when people have problems with their dogs running to the door and barking at the sound of a doorbell or knock on the door, they will often assign them a 'greeting spot' where the owner teaches the dog to go and sit or lay down quietly in a certain spot when someone comes to the door until their owner releases them to go say hi.
