Question
I have a 2 1/2 yr. old cock-a-poo. I feedher science diet dry food. I can't seem to get a definitive answer as to how much food a dog this age should be fed daily. She is 14 1/2 lbs. now. Could you tell me? Thanks so much.

Answer
If she is on the regular formula, for adult dogs, read the label for guidlines as to how much to feed.she is the right age to be on adult formula.
If she has a small appetite, she may eat less, big appectie, more. If she eats a lot more than the amount recommended on the label on the back of the bag, and you are concerned about her gaining too much weight, you might try the lamb and rice formula.
every dog is going to be a little different.
some eat more, and their weight staysin the good range. In that case, apparently their body needs more  nourishment. their activity level plays a role in this.
If she starts to put on too much weight, you may need to try and cut back a litle at a time, until she is eating less.
I had a small terrier that I worried about her weight. she was roly poly, and exercised very little, but every checkup, her health was fine. Her vet said as long as her health was good, don't worry about her. she lived to be 14&1/2 years old, and when she died, she had never had any serious health problems, just a few little stomach viruses.
Her normal life expectance for her breed and size, should have been about 10 to 12 years.
I am glad you are so watchful about her health. shows you are a good dog mommy.
that little girl is very lucky to have you.
Write any time you have a concern you feel I may be able to help you with.

I have seen absolutely NO scientific data about this, just from observing so many of my dogs all my life. It seems to me,,, the dogs that had bigger feet than average, for their breed, had bigger appetites, and the ones with smaller, dainty feet for their breed, ate less.
I kind of look for thatif i am looking at a litter to pick a puppy. If they have big feet, or small feet, is a factor I consider, just because of the appetite thing.
so far, it has borne out to be true, of the dogs I have had.
It is not a MAJOR consideration, just a thing I think about.
