Question
I have a 6 year old pomeranian, whom is usually very active, but about a week ago he started acting more and more tired. He sleeps or just lays around the house all day. He gets up and plays for about ten minuets at a time, then goes and lays down. I've. Asked a few people about this but they tell me that he's not as active because the wheather is getting warmer, and pom's don't like to get too hot, but he's an inside dog and I've never noticed this behaivor before, even in the really hot months like July, or August. I'm starting to get worried what should I do?

Answer
Hi Tracy,

Thank you for writing to me about your precious Pom.  Your dog suddenly started becoming lethargic.  This is not healthy and it's not normal.  It's a sure sign that something is terribly wrong.  Dogs cannot say, "I'm feeling sick mommy, please rush me to the doctor's office."  Instead they try to act healthy and it's only when they are very very sick that we notice something is wrong..so rush your dog to your vet immediately.

Lethargy can be a sign of so many things from infection to low thyroid to diabetes to a spider bite or poison...please do not wait...I fear for your dog's welfare should you continue to wait.

Have your vet do a full blood panel so determine the cause of this troubling condition.

I wish you the very best,
Shelley Davis
