Question
Sunday nite...My 15 y.o sheltie is losing her eyesight...tonight one of her eyes seems to be red inside.  She takes thyroid med, 2 baby aspirin per day, anti-seizure med (1/2 per day).  What do you think may have happened...she seems to be fine but everyday is a bit blinder and more confused.  Will still play and greet me at the door.  Did she have an anuerism???  Please reply.  We are very worried.

Answer
Hi,  Her eye could be red due to an oncoming infection.  If she had an anuerism, you would see a lot worse things than red in the eyes.  She could be getting a little senile, and thats why you are noticing her getting more confused.  At that age it is not that uncommon.  Her losing her eyesight doesn't help as they get more unsure of themselves when they can't see, and then their brains can get more confused to.  I would try to keep her life in as much of a pattern as possible.  That tends to keep them more reassured when their eyesight & brain are getting worse.    Hope this helps, and good luck.
