Question
we are thinking about getting a cat
we already have a 9mth lab (black) male
not fix yet
i figure it would be okay
to get a 4 to 6 mth old cat
or maybe a 3 moth
what do you think

Answer
Hello Laura, In my opinion the younger the better.  The younger they are they are less fearfull of new things and if the kitten doesn't run the dog will not chase it.  That's the big thing with cats and dogs, if they run they will be chased.  Allow them free raine while you can supervise and maybe keep them separate when your not home for the first few weeks or until you are sure they are fine with each other.  The lab will be curious and the kitten may swat him, which will earn him the dogs respect quite quickly, but it is amazing how close of friends they can become over time.  I have 3 dogs and 2 cats and we live quite well together. The hardest thing will be putting the kitten food in a place the dog wont eat it and keeping the dog out of the litter box.  Good luck, Cindy lou :)
