Why is my dog still sneezing after 5 weeks?

Question
Dawn,

Thank you for your reply. And yes, my sisters yard has weeds in it. Neither time I had Angel to the vet did they look up her nose or in her throat. I just talked with the vet and she's talking about doing a culture test....what is that and just what will it tell them? Thanks again Dawn for your help. One more thing, do you think its harming her in any way after being this way for almost 2 months?

Sincerely, Jackie
Question -
Dawn,

To tell you a little bit about my dog Angel. She'll be 4 yrs old next month and I've had her since she was 6 weeks. She has never been sick or even had a cold. I left her with my sister who has a fenced yard so Angel ran free for 7 weeks while I was away. When I got back she was sneezing and coughing. I've been back now for 5 weeks and have had her to the vets twice and given 2 different anti-biotics. She has taken both and is still sneezing/coughin. I've also gave her benadryl but it didn't help either. She is pretty active and is eating and drinking wonderful. Why can't I seem to clear her nose and stop the cough? Please let me know what I can do to help her. Thank you so much for your time. We appreciate it.

Sincerely, Ms. Johnson

Hi Ms. Johnson,  Is there a possibility that she could have inhaled something like a foxtail or something?  Does the yard have a lot of weeds?  If antibiotics didn't clear it, then she has to have something internally wrong like a foreign object or something.  Did the vet look up her nose or down her throat to see if there was something in there at all.  That seems to be the only logical answer.  Wish I could be of more help, but that is the only thing I could come up with.

Answer
Hi Jackie,  A culture can tell them if there is a yeast infection, anything bacterial that basically is not dieing with standard antibiotics.  I would have them look up her nose and see if anything like a foxtail (from a weed) is stuck up there.  The only thing that could be harming her is if there is a foxtail up there and it travels and starts puncturing other things.  Foxtails can do a lot of damage if they travel far enough in the body.  Hope this helps, good luck.
