Puppy mill rescue that defecates in crate

Question
Tucker is a 6yr old Boston Terrier. He has 2 siblings that are Bostons as well. We rescued him in May. He started defecating and urinating in his closed crate about 4 wks ago. During that time my husband and I were taking some time off work with my stepson so we were home a little bit more. We had him for 2 mos before this started. He was in his house for about 10 hrs and didn't do anything in his crate the 1st Wednesday we had him. We understand that at the mill he sat in his waste most of the time so this is just another normal day for him. However, we are bathing him daily. We have tried diapers, putting food directly in his crate and he has nothing in his crate with him. Like I said his crate is closed. He is amazingly affectionate and we love him dearly, but we are at our wits end. He also barks when he hears the door close and he is soaking wet when we get home from slobber. We assume that he barks himself into a puddle when we are gone and I would love to make him more comfy in there. Both of our other Bostons are crated when we are gone. Please help us with our rescued Tucker? Thank You, Stacy

Answer
What might work better for him would be keep the crate open, but to keep him in one room or a penned in area(with a puppy pen)and put down papers or puppy pads,as that way is better for some dogs esp ones that were in puppy mills

And slowly move the pads/paper closer to the door, and that often moves them outside too
