Answer
Hi Linda,

Your dog has several things going on, and it sounds as though it's getting out of hand.

You didn't say what part of your dog smells bad. Is it his ears? Breath? Rear- end? His fur? Each part of a dog that can develop a bad smell, has a different cause for the odor.

Your dog's gas problem is most likely a diet problem. Something he is eating is causing the problem, so look at new additions (including treats) to his diet. The quality of the food you feed your dog might also be the problem. If you are in doubt, ask your vet to recommend a food.

If your dog was being treated by your vet for a condition in his ears (ear mites?) and the treatment is either not working, or the symptoms have returned, then you need to contact the vet and tell him/her. You should do this sooner, rather than later because it sounds as though your dog is being tormented by the itching. Untreated ear conditions can not only be very painful, but they can effect your dog's hearing, so please don't delay any further in getting him treated.

When you call your vet, be sure to mention the bad odor you've been smelling, the gas problem, the itchy redness under his armpits, and the violent shaking -which could be seizures. All of your dog's conditions need medical care.

Best of luck,

Patti
