Change in peeing habits

Question
A few days ago my 1 year old Sharpei mix had a change in her
peeing habits.  She wanted to go out more often, but then when
outside she just tinkled a little bit.  Drinking habits have not
changed.  She always drinks a lot.  I have been reading up about
UTI in dogs, but she has no odor or signs of blood in her urine, and
it does not seem like she is in pain when peeing.  We have
temporarily taken her to my mom's house so she can pee anytime
she wants (not the case in our home), but still the problem has
persisted.  My mother is a RN and has given her half doses of
human UTI medicine, but I know it takes 1 to 2 weeks to take
effect.  Should we be concerned?

Answer
Hi Cherise,  I'm sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner.  If it is still persisting, then you definitely need to get her in.  I wouldn't recommend giving her human medicine as it is changed a little for humans, as their system is a little different.  Plus the vet will probably just put her on regular antibiotics. Also, is she spayed?  If not, if she is getting close to coming in heat?  If so, they will have accidents due to swelling from getting ready to go into heat.  Hope this helps,

Dawn
