giving up an older dog

Question
i have a difficult problem. i lost my house and have had to place some of my animals. my mutt is 12 and is with my best friend who he loves and she spoils him. she has another dog and cats which i had at home. i feel so guilty. i can't help but feel he will feel depressed that i gave him up. do dogs think this way, how does this effect them emotionally? he's doing great according to my friend, but i feel so bad. thanks, deb

Hi Deb,  Sometimes it can be very hard for a dog to be displaced, but if they know the person they are being put with, then a lot of times it won't affect them as bad.  It effects every animal individually though, so you can't judge it on a generalization.  The best thing in your situation is that he knew the person he was moving in with which makes it so much better for him emotionally.  Hope this helps,
