Question
i have german shepard who gave birth and had to have surgery because of not delivering all the puppies. now i am having a very hard time getting her to drink and eat. she doesn't seem to want to leave the puppies to do any of this.she is also looking around the house like there is something lost and i feel she is looking for the two puppies that didn't make it.is this possible?

Answer
I suppose its certainly possible she is looking for the puppies.  Who's to say exactly how much dogs are aware of when it comes to being pregnant and having babies.  Its very important that she eat and drink, or her milk may dry up and then the puppies could develop health issues.  If she's not wanting to leave the puppies, then bring the food and water to her.  Hand feed her if you absolutely have to but definitely make sure she's getting the nutrition she needs.  Pregnant and nursing mothers need a little extra so slowly switching her to a puppy food if you haven't already may not be a bad idea.  Congratulations and I hope she starts eating for you.
