swimming pool

Hi, I would like to know if it is ok for my bichon dog to go swimming in the family pool, she has been going the past few days, she will drink the water a few times, but loves to swim, she will cry until we let her in. Is this safe ith the chemicals of the pool?

Hi Candace!

I think that is so cute that she wants to go for a swim!  I think she is probably ok, but I would rinse her afterwards to get the chlorine out of her coat and skin.  It will dry her skin out if you don't.  Also, be sure that she is able to get out of the pool on her own, in case she jumps in sometime when no one is around. If she loves is that much, it may happen by accident and you sure don't want her to drown because no one is there to help her out! That would be awful!
I really think she is ok, but I would have a bowl of fresh water for her, and encourage her to drink it instead of the chlorinated water.  To make positively sure, you may want to call a Veterinarian's office and get their advice.
