Question
I have a 10 month old femal boxer, and a male, and we are going to breed them but we have to wait til her second heat cause she is too young, anyway she started bleeding about a week ago and she stopped bleeding, whats the next step of this and how long does it last and how long do I keep the two apart for so they dont mate.  How do I know when this is all over, what are the signs?

Answer
Write on a calendar the first day you saw bleeding, and plan on keeping the dogs separated for four weeks. Heat cycles in most bitches last for three weeks, but some can run a bit longer... and the males love to pester the bitches that first week they are out. You will need to keep one of them confined in a crate while the other one is out, rotating them throughout the day, or keep the bitch in a room behind a closed door or very tall babygate(s). Here I have one babygate on top of another since we have jumpers. The two dogs will most likely do everything they can to try to get to the other.

The dogs need to have their eyes examined by a veterinary opthalmologist and X-rays done to check for hip dysplasia before breeding. The bitch will have to wait until after she is out of season before having these tests done due to her increased blood flow.

The male may begin marking in the house after being used at stud.
