Question
I bought a min pin 7 months ago . She was 8 weeks at the time. i brought her home to our family. My daughter and 3 grandchildren all very young. She is a sweet loving bet but she bites the kids alot . She is in play and then she gets aggressive and bites them in the face. I am very frustrated can this be trained out of her or is it too late.

Answer
Gail, I do not think it's too late to work with your dog to stop this behavior. However, I do want to remind you that the first rule of dog ownership is to never leave kids and dogs together unsupervised, no matter how big the dog is, or how sweet the dog is. I'm not saying you're guilty of this, because I do not know, but I want to make sure you understand. Leaving kids and dogs together unsupervised is probably the number one cause of dog bites. :^)

Keep the dog on a leash and training collar (I prefer the pinch, or prong, collar, because it's much safer on the dog and easier to use than a choke collar), and whenever she starts getting nippy, you should immediately tell her NO, and use the leash to correct her. If you do not know how to give a leash correction, I recommend that you enroll in a basic obedience class with the dog (avoid the classes offered at pet stores, as the trainers are often not that good, and the environment at a pet store is not conducive to learning).
