QuestionMy 6 month shitzu throws up foamy white liquid about 3 times a week. It is not after she eats. Can't figure out what the problem is. Took her to the vet and she's on non-allergen dog food. She's usually fairly frisky, but seems to be a bit more lethargic. Any ideas?
AnswerHi Dianne and thanks for your question.
Is she throwing it up or coughing and gagging it up?
It sounds like more of a respiratory thing as opposed to a tummy thing. I would have my vet do a bacterial culture on the sputum, as it could be a respiratory infection. Take her temperature (rectally). Normal is around 101 - 102 and a temperature higher than that would indicate an infection.
I honestly don't think that this is a tummy problem. White foam is NORMALLY from the respiratory tract, while yellow foamy liquid is from the tummy.
Hope this helps and let me know how it's going.
