Question
Hi Laura,
I am owned by 4 dogs 2 husky/wolf mixes, an amstaffie and a 90lb lab. My lab has severe skin allergies, I am at wits end with her she is 12, I am attempting to switch all of them over to innova-evo red meat dry food. I dont have the time to do the whole raw diet. anyways, prior to this switch my 1 husky started with explosive diarrhea, she went to vet given teh meds etc. Now the other 3 are going back and forth, and Im not sure if its a "bug" or now that I am switching them over, my lab is really bad she has had 5 episodes this month, and my amstaffie once. is there anything I can give them to help ease the transitition and to calm their tummies down? I am at wits end with the diarrhea wars, the 1 husky and the amstaff are crated and they like to spray each other..lol gross..lol

Answer
lol that sounds like so much fun to clean up!  Way back when I was a kennel worker, animals would sometimes poo in their cages and then play in it...getting it all over the cage, bowls, bedding and themselves.  I called that a "poo party"!  Sounds like you have a poo convention over at your place!

How much of the new food are you giving?  It's important to mix the food in very slow (1/4 new to 3/4 old food for 4 days, then 1/2 1/2 for 4 days, then 3/4 new to 1/4 old for 5 days then all new.)  It's also possible this new food just doesn't sit right with them, if you find after doing the slow switch that it just isn't working, you may need to try a different food.  I feed Merick to my pugs, Turducken specifically.  It has a great protein quality and is actually human grade meats.  The meat is whole, not canned sludge.  Also Smothered Comfort is a really nice variety of the Merrick.

Good luck and happy poo partying!

Laura
