Question
hi, my 4 1/2 yr. old american pit bull terrier just had her 2nd litter. she had one about 1 1/2 yrs. ago, and i can't remember her looking as skinny as she does now. also she has bumps all on her vagina filled with puss and some look like they're filled with blood. i'm not sure if there's something she might have caught but she looks very sickly. her appetite is great. she also has very soft stool. i am taking her to the vet's, but because they're so jammed up i can't take the dog's there until 10/9/07 and i'm nervous for all 11 of the other dog's. also somewhere along the way one of the dog's caught flees so i'm fighting that battle too, and i know the father has tape worms. please help me.

Answer
Hi Erzsebet,

I'm sorry, but there isn't a home treatment for this, your dog needs to be diagnosed by your vet.

It sounds like your dog needs to be examined by your vet.
Your dog may have a bacterial infection. If this dog only recently had puppies, the puppies should also be examined. It's possible for the transmission of toxins within the birth canal from contaminated fetal fluids.

The puppies may have been born with worms, and should be examined by your vet anyway. The father dog needs treatment as well.

Best of luck,
Patti
