introducing an adopted spayed female to my neutered male dog

Question
I have a ten year old EXTREMELY attached neutered mixed male dog who is my absolute best friend in the world. I am thinking about adopting a low key adult/mature adult spayed female to our lives. I have heard males and females generally get along well, but I was looking for more feedback and also the best way of having the two meet. I don't think just bringing the new dog home is the best idea.

Answer
There are a few ways to do this. You could take your boy to the foster's home to meet the girl (watch him for possible leg-lifting there even if he is neutered!), but it is even better to introduce them in a neutral area, such as a park.... possibly even go for a walk with the girl and her foster mom.

You could also bring her home and put her in a crate and let them sniff through the crate door. When they seem to be ignoring each other, let them out together for real introductions. This might take a few hours, but girls and boys generally get along fairly well.
