My 11 week old male Lab

Question
I have a 11 week old male choc lab. We have had him about 3 wks. Not all the time, but sometimes when we go to take a toy, or bone from him he growls. It is making me concerned, due to me having lots of children in and out of my home. The other day, a gentlemen reached down to pet him, and he growled. The gentlemen had been running and was sweaty. I did not know if that could have had anything to do with it. I just don't want him to get big,and hurt someone. I have not used anyform of discipline, because I don't know what to do. Please Help!

Answer
he is still too young to attend a class, but not to learn his place in the pack.  The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.
