Question
Our dog is Great Dane mix. He's really well behaved, friendly, great with our grand daughter just really sweet. There are two things that are really amusing to us and we don't understand why he does them. He will take individual pieces of food out of his bowl (then tries to cover a bowl up with his nose) and spread them around the house before he eats and the other is when you give him treats, chew bones etc. he wags his tail excitedly and sounds like he is crying. It sounds so sad yet he looks happy. What is he saying?  Thanks

Answer
With the pieces of food,he is trying to bury them-which is an instinct they get from wolves, they bury there meat so they have some food when food is scarce but in the case of domestic dogs, food is never scarce so they tend to eat it soon after they 'bury' it

Now for him crying with a treat in his mouth,my own dog does this, and it a way of greeting you-he is also doing that because he trusts you and knows you won't take it from him-that is actually a VERY good trait as that means he is not possessive with his food, which is good for a dog that is around children
