Question
My female Chihuahua is about a year and a half old. Before we moved, she was 100% potty trained to go in a litter box. Now that we've moved, she only pees in the litter box and keeps pooping on our living room carpet. Every time she does this, I pick her up, show it to her and scold her saying "no" and "bad girl" and give her a time out in her cage for an hour or two. Im so tired of being mad at her every day and having to correct her every time she goes poop. Its been a couple weeks and Im still not getting any progress. I clean her litter box every morning and we keep our house very clean. I even mopped the carpet on two seperate occasions with a fragranced disinfectant hoping it would deter her from the behavior but nothing works. Please help.

Answer
Nicole..first of all..do NOT put your dog in her crate as punishment.. this is a safe haven for the dog and should never be used as a time out. The reason your dog is having problems is because of a mistake made by many people. Training yur dog to go in a litter box is actually telling the dog it is ok to go inside the house..the only difference is that you are showing her to go in one particular spot. Well not that you have moved, the litterbox may be the same, but the place it is in is not. You need to start over with the housebreaking again and go on a feeding schedule and keep her in her crate until she potties..once she does it there..tell her good girl...if she doesnt go, dont allow her to be loose in the house..it will only take a couple of times for her to get it again
good luck
