Question
QUESTION: hello sir.i bought a german shepherd when it was 27days old.it is now 3months old.the problem is i have kept it in house on tiles for many days.now it has got rickets.i consulted a veterian doctor also.he gave some calcium syrup and polybion syrup.is this enough for my dog to improve and get out of rickets.i need a good sugestion and things to follow practically to make it a perfect healthy dog.hope you reply soon to my question sir.u can reply to my email id.thank u sir.

ANSWER: It's not rickets.Your puppy's bones are not strong enough to support its weight due to poor nutrition and exersize. You need to make sure your puppy gets healthy food and don't depend on just additives. though at this point I feel sure they are necessary. 27 days is entirely too young to take away from mum, and your pups likely to have growth problems as well as immunity issues due to that. The supplements your vet gave you are great, but also give him/her vitamins C,E,Bcomplex., omega fish oil, flax seed oil, and msn, as well as condroiten and glucosamine. Make sure your dog food is meat based, no meal, no by products., no corn, wheat or soy and no chemicals.
Hopefully the nutritional deficiencies suffered by this baby will only result in temporary health issues.
Good luck

QUESTION: thank you very much.so now in future are there any chances of getting rickets?

Answer
I think that what you, or your vet is calling rickets is a bone disorder caused by an improper imbalance of calcium phospherous and
vitamin D. If you treat it as I suggested with proper diet, the supplements your vet gave you and the ones I suggested, then I hope you will get away with little to no permanent damage. It won't reaccur if you continue the diet and supplements
