My husband and Daughter are allergic to the dog...

Question
Hi we have a 7 month old Boxer, Cassius, who is just a great silly dog. the last seven months we realized that my husband and daughter are allergic to him. I am so sad because it seems like we might have to give him away. They have tried every prescription allergy medication out there but nothing works. He wants to move him into the garage (he sleeps in my daughter's room-in a crate) because he thinks that might help. I would be so sad if he went into the garage. Is there anything i can do to the dog that would make him less allergic to those with allergies? We bathe him one to two times a week. Please help!

Answer
Tamika, you really need to find out exactly >>what<< your husband and daughter are allergic to. Is it his fur? His saliva? Dander? Without knowing exactly what it is they are reacting to, you cannot really address the problem correctly.

When do their reactions occur most often, and when are they at their worst? What happens to them? Do they have breathing issues, hives, itchy eyes, etc?

I am not all that familiar with the prescriptions used to treat allergies, but I do know that there is some kind of shot that some people use to control pet allergies. Have they tried that? It may work even though oral medication may not.

One thing you can try would be to wipe him down daily - even several times a day - with pet wipes. This will help keep the dander down.
