Question
Hello my jack russell is 5 months old we housebreaked him really well at first he would go outside and do his business on the balcolny in our apartment. Recently in the last 2 weeks he has started pissing all over the place it seems that all that ge has learned he is forgetting. Is it normal that a 5 month pup still pees all over the place? Especially if you say no to him for doing something he will piss also when he is excited and scared ( intimidated)

Answer
Candelle, is he squatting and peeing in the house, or is he cocking his leg? If he's cocking his leg, then that really is a totally separate issue from house breaking. When they start cocking their leg, they are marking territory. To solve this problem, you have to keep an eye on him at all times, so that when he starts to lift his leg, you can verbally correct him and get him outside straightaway. It might be helpful to let him wear a leash and just drag it around when he's loose inside the house and you are there to supervise. Using baby gates to keep him confined to the room(s) you are in is also a good idea, so he doesn't sneak off into the bedroom or something when you aren't looking. Now is when you should be calling the vet to make an appointment to have him neutered, which should help curb >>some<< of his desires to mark territory.

Remember, at 5 months, he's still very much a baby, so just be patient and consistent, and he will be house trained in no time! If he piddles when you scold him, then you're using too harsh of a tone of voice. You can use a corrective tone of voice without scaring him. Do not scold him for piddling out of excitement or fear, because that will only make the problem worse. It should go away on its own unless you make a big deal about it. That is a common puppy issue.
