Male dogs secrets weird odor

Question
My dog Dozzer is a male Great Dane/Doberman mix. He is a little over a year and every so often he emits this strange odor that is sort of metal mixed with gross. It is hard to describe but I know it is not coming from his butt. I have noticed that he does it when the women in the house are menstruating. What is it and why does he do it (are there any other reasons for it)?

Answer
Dogs' main sent glands are next to the anus.   they do have some additional glands in the feet and chin.  There may not be too much you can do except talk to the vet.

Better leadership might help too.  The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.
