Too young to mate

I have an 7 month old female pitt bull and a 1 1/2 yr old male. She is in heat and I have tried to keep an eye on them. I found them locked the other day and now I fear that she may be pregnant in her young age.? What should I do and is that possible? I read that when they lock, the female is definitely pregnant? I dont want her pregnant right now, I think she's too young. I also heard that stopped her growth?? Is that true? Please advice. Thanks!

You are right that she is much too young to be bred. Having a litter of puppies at such a young age CAN stunt her growth, yes, because her body is trying to provide nutrients to the puppies instead of to her. I would strongly suggest you take her to the vet and ask his opinion. Depending on how long it's been, he may be able to abort the pregnancy. You may, however, have to go ahead and spay her.
