sudden death in my brothers dog

Question
Hi Cindy- my brothers dog passed away strangely @3 days ago-he was a 3 yr old rott-with a hx of some type of blythe?infection several months before.Treated and cured from this. However, he was realitively healthy prior to death except for an infect in eye, from a scratch. He was fine the day b4. My brother got up that morning to feed him and give him his eye drops and found him dead. No vomit or anything, but urine where he passed. The vet said the meds he was on previously could have weakened his arteries, and may have caused him to poss having a heart attack or aneurysm. My question to you, is do rotts have a tendency to have any heart issues in general with their breed. I wonder if the meds in addition to being predispostioned to this could have attributed to his death?

Answer
Hi Mary
Rotties have a grocery list of genetic predispositions for problems. As well as a weakened immune system that makes them more prone to contagious illnesses as well., This is a result of many years of inbreeding and irresponsible breeding that has left them very vulnerable to so many disorders that it's horrifying.

Owning a rottie means that you have to be very conscientious in your feeding (no by products, corn , wheat , soy, chemicals, etc, good supplements) annual checkups, dental care, exercise programs etc. You should also always find out what health testing has been done on the parents,. make SURE that they HAVE been tested and get a good guarantee from a reputable breeder.
There are many breeds that have all kinds of health problems unfortunately.
I'm so sorry for your family's loss.  Since I don't know what the meds were that he was on , I can't answer the question referring to them, however if the vet said that possibly it weakened the arteries then of course, it is possible. Especially if he already had an aortic condition that Rotties are prone to. In that case it most likely exacerbated an already existing condition
good luck
Cindi
