Dogs Gums

Question
Hi. Today my dog a border yorkshire terrier cross of 18 months banged her bottom jaw on our wood floor. Now her top gums seem to be a black or brown colour. I assume it is just bruising but is their a possibility it could be something more serious.

Answer
Hi Phil :-)

Oh dear the poor thing. This does sound like bruising to the upper Gum but it is a good idea to pay a visit to your Vet incase she broke the root of her front teeth which are on the side of the injury to her Gum or incase she has bleeding underneath the skin of the Gum.

This can sometimes occur and its always best to bear on the side of caution but it does sound like Gum bruising. If she is in any pain or discomfort, purchase some Bongela/Bonjela cream from your Pharmacist and apply this to the bruising on her Gum.

This cream is for mouth ulcers but because it has Anaesthetic in the cream it will numb the area slightly and help with any discomfort.

Take care and all the best and good luck at the vet and please leave me a comment.
