Question
My dog's feet stink.  He  pees on his feet.  I clean them everytime he goes out.  But his feet still smell. Even after he goes to the groomers, they still smell.  I don't know what to do.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Thank you!

Answer
Hi Kathy,

Dogs feet do have a natural odor (like Fritos or popcorn). They perspire through their pads. There is no way to get rid of the smell, aside from not smelling your dog's feet.

Does the dog lick and chew at his feet? It could be a yeast or bacterial problem growing.

When your dog is groomed, do they trim the hair that grows between your dog' pads? Some dogs have more foot fur than others, and it can keep moisture trapped which could cause a bad smell.

You might consider keeping your dog's feet clean and tidy in booties that you have sprinkled with foot powder or talc. Nice fleecy booties are available and the dogs get used to them pretty fast.

If you feel your dog has excessive food odor, you should have him examined by your vet.

Best of luck,

Patti
