dogs licking other dogs ears

Question
I would like to know why my 4 month old puppy always licks my 7 year old dogs ears.  I read somewhere that it was because of an infection but my dog was at the vet and there is no ear infection. I also had a 3 year old dog who did the same thing to the 7 year old dog.  I thank you for your help.

Answer
Hi Donna!

Yes, it can be because of an ear infection, as the smell is very intriguing to other dogs. It can also however be as simple as a sign of submission, nurturing, or affection. Dogs often groom each other. If your 7 year old has no ear infection, I would assume that it is just that- a sign of affection or submission.

Hope I helped!
