Dog bitten by another dog

Question
Tonight my husband was walking our dog and another dog from the neighborhood was walking along the same path with his owner. The dogs saw each other and started a "dog fight", which is something our baby has never done. He is almost 2 years old. Our dog has had all his shots and now I am wondering what to do about his wounds. He has 2 holes , like teeth holes on his thigh. We cleaned it with betadine and put neosprine on it. Should he go to the vet, should we do anything else. We tried to wrap it up , but he pulled the gauze off. He is just laying in my daughters room , but he is limping and licking his wounds. Is it okay to let him lick it and if not do you have any suggestions on how to stop him?
Thanks for all your help, we truly appreciate it.

Answer
Did you find out if the other dog had their rabies shot? If not, this NEEDS to be reported.

If the are two very clean, small puncture wounds, you can treat it yourself by leaving them exposed to the air and gently cleaning them with peroxide. Neosporine can help, but just keeping it clean will heal it quickly. If these are deep, ragged, large or very bloody wounds (based upon the fact that they are on his thigh) he needs to see a vet. Really, unless you absolutely can't afford it... a vet is the best bet just to make sure you didn't miss any more serious wounds.

I hope he feels better!
