Question
QUESTION: Hi Labman i hav a 3 months old puppy & he is not eating as he is eating nd is not playing.I dont know how to feed him. iam getting mad he is  not growing properly. Please answer to this question.

ANSWER: You should be feeding a puppy chow now if they are available there. Switching to an adult chow for the larger breeds at 4 months, slows growth and helps develop sturdier joints.  If you haven't been feeding a puppy chow, you might go directly to an adult chow.  I hope you have regular dog chows available because it is very difficult to give your puppy the complete and balanced diet is needs unless you do.

Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest. You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them. Each dog is different. Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog must have its food and exercise adjusted to its individual needs. Here is a link to a good illustrated guide, http://www.longliveyourdog.com/twoplus/RateYourDog.aspx  It is common for Shepherd puppies to eat so little they stay on the thin side.  If their ribs show a little, it doesn't hurt a thing.  You can be feeding him twice a day.  Put down the dish with what the dog should eat, and give it 15 minutes to eat. Then take it up. Do not give it anything to eat until its next scheduled meal.

If he shows a lack of energy in addition to not eating at all, you may want to take him to a vet.

QUESTION: I dont understand what chow is we live in kashmir and only PEDIGREE dog food is available only.ND i feed him steamed rice nd bread nd legs of chicken. nd some time candiees.and i want to know when will be its ears grow like of the adult dogs.

Answer
Feed the Pedigree.  It is carefully formulated to give him the complete and balanced diet he needs.  You can't do that with a simple diet you prepare yourself.

Many Shepherds have their ears standing up by 3 months, but some not until almost a year.  I don't know that there is anythign you can do to help, except feed a good diet, the Pedigree and very little else.

Watch the candy.  Very much chocolate is bad, and raisins are worse.
