Buying a 2nd dog

Question
We have 5 month old staffy x bull Arab he is a lovely natured and energetic dog. We are wanting to buy a 2nd dog but not sure what breeds would mix best with our current dog. I would like something like a king Charles but not sure if it would suit.

Answer
Without knowing the actual temperament of your dog and the amount of socialization he has had, particularly in regard to other dogs, it is impossible for me to recommend another dog (or not). It really is too soon to bring in another dog right now anyway.

Take your dog to ongoing obedience classes for several months and work with him every day. Once you have molded him into the dog of your dreams, THEN it is time to bring in a second dog, as the first dog will help to train the second, and life will be so much easier for you.

Since yours is a male, your safest bet for a second dog would be a female (be sure to get her spayed!). Make sure that she is not at the same level of dominance as your male (ie. if he is dominant, the second dog should be more submissive... and vice-versa). Aso, if your dog ends up being very large, I would be cautious about getting a second dog that is too small as he could easily hurt it in his exuberance when playing.
