Question
Dear Becca B,
I live in India, specifically in Mumbai. I have a Pomeranian bread dog at my home. My question that he is having a lot of hair fall problem.
I am not sure why is this happening. Because of which he had a hair cut. But the problem is that, now his hair are not growing back.
Please suggest me some remedies for the same.
THANK YOU

Answer
Hi Hemant,

Pomeranians have a double-coat which should not be clipped because it forever changes the appearance, texture and how the fur grows. Usually the fur will grow back sort of patchy and it will become more dense; in some areas it grows back very slowly.

To be certain that it is not a medical problem, you can consult your veterinarian. There are a host of medical illnesses which also effect hair growth, however, if his fur was normal before --besides seasonal shedding-- it is likely related to being clipped.

You may have to keep him clipped henceforth to avoid uneven/dense grow-back.

Thank-you,
Becca
