Question
We have a 6 month old Havanese who weighs 9 pounds. We feed him science diet dry puppy food, approximately 1/3 cup three times a day. Is this a sufficient aount? he seems to always be hungry.

Answer
It is quite common for dogs to wolf down more than they need and look for more.  Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest.
You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them.  Each dog is
different.  Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog
must have its food adjusted to its individual needs. Here is a link to a good illustrated guide, http://www.longliveyourdog.com/twoplus/RateYourDog.aspx

You could also cut him back to 1 or 2 meals now if you want.
