Question
QUESTION: Hello its Benjamin again i am so sorry i accidentily deleted the message that you sent to me with the brands of healthy do food on it can you please send it to me again?

ANSWER: Hi Benjamin,

Sorry I missed you last night, I have a maximum of five questions a day and I was maxxed out.

The answers are always available on the AllExperts site, but I've reprinted it here again for you. Please let me know what you buy and how your dog does with it. Rememebr to switch over slowly too please - if you do get a premium brand, start adding it in about30% at a time - so for a few days use 2/3 the old food and 1/3 the new....then increase the new food to 2/3 and feed that mixture for a few more days and finally switch over to the 100% premium. These premium foods have a much higher content of meat protein (not to mention they don't have a lot of the undesirable content of the ALpo) so your dog's system can react - especially an older dog who has been etaing the same food all his life.

Here's the previous answer with a list of recommendations:

"Yes, you can and should upgrade from Alpo to a higher quality food. Older dogs in particular require good nutrition. I would recommend any of the following foods (and this is by no means an exhaustive list):

or my personal favourite:

I'm sorry to say that Alpo is not a quality food and I would strongly recommend that you upgrade as soon as you can.  There are many high quality foods available now that even ten years ago we didn't have access to. I want to stress I am in no way criticising YOU for this, with all the money poured into marketing and hype it's very hard for the average dog lover to know what to trust. But please do switch your dog over if at all possible. Fromm, Natural balance, Merrick's, Acana, Innova - dozens of good products to choose from. Let me know if I can help more, and best wishes"

If your Mom balks at switching foods, you can have a look at this and show her as well:

Good luck!

QUESTION: Hello, its Ben again do you know the price ranges of any of these foods because I can't convince my mom to transfer foods.  Can you give me any ideas or facts to change her mind?

Answer
Hi Benjamin,

I would suggest for prices that you contact a local petfood store or better yet, several - and do some comparison shopping. I can tell you they will be considerably more costly than Alpo. I wish you all the best in persuading your Mother of the power and importance fo good nutrition. My email is catlane@thepossiblecanine.com and my website is www.thepossiblecanine.com - have her drop by and visit or contact me directly if she is interested in my opinion. I would be more than happy to chat with her directly.

And keep up the good work!
Catherine
