Dog food for overweight dog

Question
We have a 5 year old White Golden Retriever and a 10 year old Cock-a-poo. Right now they are both eating Innova EVO Turkey & Chicken Small bites. My question is this. Should I be feeding both dogs the same food? My Cocker has terrible skin allergies and I am wondering if there is a better food for her. My Golden is overweight because she has a bad leg and often limps after long walks, therefore her activity level is low. Should I be feeding her a food better suited for overweight dogs?
Both dogs like the EVO but I have heard they were bought out and may not be producing the same quality food. What is a good food for both my dogs, either together or separately.
Thank you.

Answer
If the Cocker's allergies are to a type of protein in the current food, then any food without it would be a better food for her.   Any one, no matter how expensive or fine of organic ingredients, with it would be bad.  I would try a lamb, beef, fish, or anything else without turkey and chicken. If you have fed other things in the past, avoid them too.  It makes little difference what you feed a dog, if it is going to develop food allergies, it will become allergic to whatever it is eating.  Make a slow transition to any new food over a week or more.  Then stick to it for at least a month.  If you don't see any improvement, try another protein source.  I would leave the Golden on the Evo until you settle on a food for the Cocker.  Just feed a little less.  Once you have a food that works for the Cocker, slowly introduce it to the Golden.  You might even look at senior formulas for both.  They are lower calorie and have additives for joints.

As for fears about Evo being bought out, keep an eye on the ingredient list.  Much of the fear comes from those that distrust large companies.
