english bulldog eats dirt;

i hope you can help ,my louie eats grass and dirt ,plain dirt, does he need a mineral supp. Also he had a red spot on his paw that he kept licking .one night he could;nt sleep because of it so i gave him a benadryl,,is that in any way harmful to my baby? please help.
