Question
Hello. To give you some history on my situation, I had a teacup poodle that is now 4 years old and in the beginning of August I acquired another poodle that was female and she had been kept outside for her whole two years in a small pen. When I first brought her home we couldn't raise our voice or she would pee on the floor, but luckily we don't have carpet. one of the problems is since she has been kept outside in a small pen, I am having problems house training her and the second is that her and my male locked up when she chewed through my gate while I was at church one day but hey it only takes one time right?
so anyway she gave birth to 4 gorgeous puppies on the 18th of October and I need to know when I can start looking to have her fixed. I know its alot but any thing you know will help.

Answer
Hello Boomer,
Sorry it took awhile to get back to you.

You should be able to get your girl spayed after the puppies are weaned, around 6 weeks after they were born.
Your female will go into heat again about 6 months after the puppies were born.

As far as training her to potty outside, you should first make sure that she is on a feeding schedule rather than eating when she wants to. I would say twice a day and around 1/2-3/4 cup per feeding. When you take her out to potty, take her to the same spot every time. This way, she gets used to that same spot and she will want to go there again because she has gone there before.
Get her on a schedule of going out at the same time every day so that her bladder gets used to emptying at that time every day.  I would try for about 4 times a day for now.
You might also pull up her water about 2 hours before bedtime, and take her out to potty just before she goes to bed, so that she doesn't have a full bladder during the night.

Clean up any messes with a Pet Approved cleaning product, because even if you can't smell the accident anymore, she can and will want to return to that spot.

I hope this answered your questions and helps you with the housebreaking some.  If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask.
