Thirst and excessive licking

Question
My 8 year old toy  poodle is licking herself excessively.  In the evenings when we go to bed, she also licks the cover on the bed.  Do you know why she may be doing this?

It could be just a phase she is going through and will stop in a little while, or it could be something like an allergy that may be triggering this.  Try to distract her when she does this by giving her a toy or a chewie to take her attention away from licking.  You can also make a spray up that contains Hot Pepper juice and Vinegar.  Mix it up and spray it on the areas she is licking.  

If nothing else helps, you might try giving her a 1/3 of a tablet of benedryl in the evenings to see if this helps her itching any.
