Question
Hi im running out of things to do.I have 2 dogs and just recently moved in with another dog , all the dogs r family the first dog is the mom the second is a daughter and the third is the other daughter.Ever since ive moved in the two sister dogs go at it at least twice a day, i seperated them doesnt work they fight after a few minutes of being with each other . weve put one in a cage they fight through it . Weve tried laying them down and making them calm ,they calm down and 5-10 minutes fighting again.ive spanked them held them apart nothing seems to work. could it b because they both just had their periods last month ,or is it a territory thing because the dogs came into the house of the other dog .i cant get them to stop growling once theyve started. pplease help i dont want to keep the dogs seperated two stay in a finished basement and the other roams the house but when ever they come up the sisters start fighting

Answer
Sorry it took so long to get back to you.

Hello Danielle,
You need to first find out which dog between the two sisters are the most dominate.  After you do this, you need to hold the other sister down and dominate her, and have her sister dominate her also.  You will need to lay her down on the ground with her head down and make her lay still.  You then have the other female come over and sniff and stand over the one on the ground.  If the less dominate dog tries to get up, make her stay in the submissive position.  Continue to do this everytime there is a fight.  You have to be assertive and let them know you mean it, but at the same time, remain calm.
Once the more dominate dog is estabolished, you have to show both dogs that YOU realize who is the top dog.  Feed that dog first, pet that dog first, take it for a walk first, etc.  This will let the dominate dog know that she is boss, and will tell the submissive dog that it is known that the dominate dog is dominate.
When you put the two dogs in seperate crates, but have them near each other, it causes them to want to fight more because they see each other, but can't get to each other.  This makes them mad, so that when they ARE together, they will want to fight more.

This might sound crazy, but as long as there is no blood, you should let them fight it out to determine who is the "Top Dog".  Most dogs that fight aren't fighting to hurt each other, but rather to determine who is Boss.  Once that is done, they stop fighting and the Submissive dog starts to submit to the dominate dog.  If they are fighting, but not drawing blood, let them fight it out to see who dominates the other one.  Be on hand and have others that can help you, in case the fighting gets bad.

Give this a try and see how it works out.  If you have other questions about this, or other dog questions in general, please feel free to ask.
