Question
My Mums 2 year old purebred pedigree mini poodle, Pepper, has had 1 litter last year. They turned out healthy and perfect. We kept the male puppy, Leo, for my Dad. Unfortunately last time she was on heat, even though she was kept inside and in the second backyard of our house, Leo must have snuck through a hole in the gate to get to her. We just took her to the vets and she will be having puppies within a week. We are extremely worried that something will be wrong with them even though our vet has told us that they look very healthy and active. They were very lively in the ultra sound, although they look undersized.
Is there any real problems associated with this kind of inbreeding? We would like to know what to expect.
Thank you.

Answer
Hi Amy,
This answer may create quite a stir as the honest answer is - this may be the best litter your mums dog could have had.  Pepper is going to produce some super nice puppies (that will have all of the best traits of both her and Leo) some ok puppie and then some puppies that display the less quality traits.  You should get something pretty nice if they are both good quality dogs.  This is how many show dogs are made.  People don't like to talk about it, most people discourage it but the truth is - most show pedigrees are bred very very close.  So don't stress, the puppies should be fine and again - you should have some beauties.

Regards,
Brandie
