QUESTION: he is 5 years old. do you think that is the problem

Answer
I don't think so. I could see that being a problem if he were an "older" dog, but not if he is just 5. But, then again, I could be wrong.

I personally don't have any experience with breeding dogs, so my knowledge in that area is limited to the basic, general info. It could be a lot of different things...Are you positive the female is in heat? Is your dog healthy? Does he require any type of assistance any other time you stud him out? I wish I knew what to tell you, but I don't. Maybe you could call a vet or another kennel/breeder and see if they have any input on the situation.
