Question
Hi I have a fixed female pit bull that I got from the dog pound when she was 5 months old she turned one 4-17-06. The lady at the pound said the owner didnt have time for her that she likes little kids and animals(she has really bad allergies thats why she was at the pound) she stills does but if a stranger mostly guys that she dont know come into our house with out letting her smell them she tnes to nip them she just puts her mouth on them really that what my uncle said anyway and if there is lots of people she dont know all around tries to pet her all at once she gets scared and nips at them. What should I do? she is the best dog ever I have know plans of getting rid of her or putting her to sleep. She loves to play with other dogs.

Answer
hello,

you  might  want to take some extra precautions when you have guests. It seems that she has had a bad encounter when she was young. This is extremely hard to turn into a positive thing. Maybe she is protective? but fear biting does seem to be the case. You might want to muzzle her when you have people around just to be on the safe side.

It doesnt seem as if the problem is bad enough to put herdown, becuase you say she is ok if she gets to sniff the persons etc.

Just take caution, as it could be serious.
