Answer
Carrie,

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I was out of town and I forgot to change my account settings to show I was on "vacation".

Hands down, no questions about it, you need to take your dog to the vet. Any time an animal has a large change in weight or eating habits, it is a sign of a serious issue. And when they are "older" dogs, it is even more important that they be seen and treated as quickly as possible.

While you are having him examined, the vet should be able to tell you how to adjust his diet to get him back to a healthy weight. They should also be able to tell you if he needs any kind of special vitamins or dietary supplements in addition to his food.
